WatchTime New York 2016: Hands On with the Nomos neomatik nachtblau Collection

At WatchTime New York 2016, Nomos Glashütte introduced collectors and watch aficionados to three new watches with deep blue dials called the “nachtblau” collection. At the event, we spoke with Nomos’s Merlin Schwertner, who told us that the three nachtblau watches are an extension of the family started by the Tetra, which was given the deep, midnight blue dial in the spring. The three new nachtblau watches are the Metro neomatik, the Tangente neomatik and the Minimatik. Schwertner said the nachtblau collection’s deep blue dial color was inspired by the evening sky, when blue turns to black as night falls. The extremely dark blue, which is almost black, enhances the dial’s silver and gold elements. And each of the watches has a brilliant orange seconds hand, which sparkles against the dark blue background.

The watches are also an expansion of Nomos’s new automatic movement, Caliber DUW 3001, Schwertner said. The movement is ultra-thin (3.2 millimeters high) and gives the new models an elegant look. The movement features the brand’s proprietary swing system with tempered blue balance spring. It has a traditional Glashütte three-quarter mainplate, stop-seconds mechanism and a 42-hour power reserve.

All three models have stainless-steel cases; the Minimatik has a tripartite case while the Tangente and the Metro have bipartite cases. The Minimatik’s case measures 35.5 mm; the other two models have 35-mm cases. All three models have sapphire crystals in front and back.

The three watches have lacquered dials with rhodium-plated hands and a small-seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The dial of the Minimatik nachtblau has pearled indexes, rose-gold numerals, and green printed accents. The Tangente’s dial features green and silver-colored accents; the Metro’s dial has green and orange accents.

The watches have Remborded Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan hand-stitched black straps with Nomos buckle clasps.
