news

The sponsoring luxury watch brands for WatchTime’s “Inside Basel.Geneva” series of watch collector events have really strutted their stuff this year. As noted by WatchTime’s IBG event partner, watch collector and aficionado Jeff Kingston, not only did each brand have a broad selection from its collection on display at the opening event in Chicago — far broader than you’d ever find at a boutique or other retailer — but key new watch models from SIHH and Baselworld that won’t be in stores for some months. Scroll down to discover some of the highlights, many of which have been spotlighted in detail on WatchTime.com.
A. Lange & Söhne: Lange had all three colors of its new Grand Lange 1 Moonphase (platinum, rose gold and yellow gold). Of course, the luxury watch brand from Glashütte, Germany also had a number of Lange Datograph watches on display, including the three top rarities: a rose-gold Lange Datograph Perpetual (all the other colors have been discontinued); a rose-gold Double Split (all others are sold out), a watch that begs to be worn backwards so that the owner can gaze upon the movement; and, last but not least, a platinum Lange Datograph Up-Down.

Blancpain: This brand displayed a broad array of Baselworld 2014 highlights: the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph, with its new 5-hz column-wheel movement, in both the new ceramic case and brushed stainless-steel case ; the Villeret Tourbillon, with its remarkable 12-day power reserve (the longest power reserve for an automatic tourbillon) and enamel dial; the new, platinum-cased, limited-edition Villeret Perpetual, with its enamel dial and eight-day power reserve; the Villeret Carrousel Phase de Lune; and the new Villeret Reveil GMT alarm watches, in two colors. Along with this year’s “novelties,” as they’re referred to in the watch world, Blancpain also brought a wide range of timepieces from its existing collections.
